Individual Therapy

What is individual Gestalt psychotherapy?

Individual Gestalt psychotherapy focuses on awareness and personal growth. It encourages clients to notice how they are in the world and take responsibility for being their own agents of change, leading to a more authentic and fulfilling life. The therapy explores the client's present moment experience, examining how past experiences shape current behaviours. The therapeutic relationship is central, helping clients understand learned behaviours that hinder authentic living. The therapist acts as a supportive guide, using techniques such as role-playing, guided imagery, body awareness exercises, dialogue, and focusing on the therapeutic relationship. The emphasis on the "here and now" is vital as its really all we have with any memories of the past only occurring in the present moment. Gestalt therapy can enhance self-awareness, increase choices, and foster a more genuine way of living.

My ideal client is someone who is genuinely committed to looking inwards, keen to look at themselves and how they relate to the world around them. The therapy I am offering is ideal for those seeking an engaged therapeutic relationship with collaborative exploration rather than a one-side dialogue from the client. I have a particular interest and focus on relationship issues, LGBTQIA+ therapy, Neurodiversity, trauma, and self-development.

Determining how long you should be in therapy is a very personal question. For some people who are struggling with a particular issue and progress could be made on that in 6-12 weeks. If you are looking for therapy more from a personal growth perspective this is a life long journey and the support you may need for that could vary from 12 weeks to 12 years +. I offer both long and short term therapy depending on your needs, lifestyle and budget.

Whether online or in person individual sessions are either 50 minutes or you can opt for more in depth double sessions of 100 minutes.
